World Press Photo contest

JAKARTA (JP): Professional photographers are urged to send in
entries to the World Press Photo contest by Jan. 31, 1997,
organizers of the 40th annual contest said.

Entries of pictures taken during 1996 are to be sent to the
World Press Photo Foundation, Jacob Obrechstraat 26, 1071 KM
Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Entries can consist of single pictures or picture stories for
nine categories: general news, spot news, people, daily life,
portraits, sports, the arts, science and technology, and the
environment.

The international jury for the contest consists of nine
professionals from nine countries, the organizers said.

Last year 29,116 pictures were sent in by 3,068 photographers
from 103 countries. (anr)
