Jakarta — The Gerakan Kebangkitan Baru Nahdlatul Ulama (GKB-NU) has expressed support for President Prabowo Subianto’s steps to actively engage in efforts to mediate and de-escalate the intensifying conflict between Iran and the US–Israel axis.

The GKB-NU believes the conflict escalation has the potential to trigger a large-scale war that threatens global stability and the future of humanity.

Hery Haryanto Azumi, the initiator and chairman general of GKB-NU, emphasised that war in any form constitutes a tragedy of humanity that destroys the order of civilisation.

He stated that war, regardless of its background and objectives, remains a tragedy of humanity that destroys the fundamental human right to live in peace and justice.

The GKB-NU strongly condemns any aggression against a sovereign nation such as the Islamic Republic of Iran. “Aggression and counter-aggression must be immediately halted to save the lives of human beings who represent the future of global civilisation,” Hery said.

He noted that President Prabowo Subianto’s decision to engage in mediation efforts represents a strategic move aligned with the principle of Indonesia’s independent and active foreign policy.

“We commend President Prabowo’s initiative to promote mediation and de-escalation of the conflict. This is a genuine step rooted in the principle of being independent and active, and the non-aligned spirit that has long been the norm of Indonesian foreign policy,” he stated.

The GKB-NU also called for Indonesia to play a greater role as a nation with the world’s largest Muslim population by rallying moral and intellectual leadership of the Islamic world.
