World Music Day: Google Search Features New Doodle Celebrating Dangdut
Google Indonesia has displayed a special Doodle design themed around the celebration of dangdut music on its main Search page, launched to coincide with World Music Day on 21 June 2026. The illustration, specially designed by designer Ardhira Putra, captures the essence of a dynamic dangdut stage full of communal energy. Ardhira, known for his works on a global level, expressed his pride in being able to visualise Indonesia’s musical identity on the global search site. “I created this Doodle to inspire people to continue being proud of our musical identity. For me, dangdut is a symbol of inclusivity; with our different backgrounds, we can all stand on the same stage floor, exchange happiness, and sing together to celebrate the richness of Indonesian culture,” said Ardhira in a Google Indonesia press release. Country Marketing Manager of Google Indonesia Muriel Makarim explained that public interest in dangdut music on digital platforms has shown a positive trend throughout the year. Based on Google Search data, searches for the “Popdut” genre increased by 30 per cent, while “Disco Dangdut” rose by 20 per cent. A surge also occurred in keywords related to the entertainment atmosphere, such as “Dangdut Cafe” which rose by 90 per cent and “Dangdut Concert” by 30 per cent. The public is also increasingly active in searching for references on expression and movement. Searches for dangdut icons, such as “Goyang Dombret singer” and “Inul Daratista song lyrics”, increased by more than 100 per cent. With the Doodle themed around the celebration of dangdut music, Google Indonesia is providing interactive features on the Search page. Users can utilise AI-based technology to dissect the treasures of local music with greater precision. Available features include Hum to Search, which allows users to find a song just by humming the tune, as well as a complete lyrics feature with translations to help understand the meaning of regional songs. In addition, there are Knowledge Panels for legendary musician profile information and Key Moments integration on videos to make it easier to search for the best parts of a concert or instrument tutorial. The unique personalities and talents of musicians are now also easier to explore through technological devices and social media. “Every era is different; today’s era has social media that can be used for exploration. Their personalities, those who have advantages, can be directly explored via social media,” said Inul. In her view, the ease of access to information through digital platforms allows every individual with unique talent to showcase their personality without having to go through strict conventional routes as in the past. Inul, whose name skyrocketed through the song “Goyang Dombret”, added that currently many artists outside the dangdut genre are starting to sing dangdut songs with modified arrangements. She considers this phenomenon a positive sign of more rapid industry development. “The dangdut songs can be modified, can be elevated anywhere, and they are also performing the songs,” said Inul.
