World Leaders Take Turns Meeting President Prabowo, Signalling a Global Geopolitical Shift
A series of visits by world leaders to Indonesia in close succession is seen as reflecting increased international attention on the country’s strategic position. International relations observer Teuku Rezasyah assessed that this phenomenon is inseparable from the ongoing shift in the global power map towards a new order.
Recently, President Prabowo Subianto received visits from several heads of state and government, including Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. According to Rezasyah, world leaders are aware of a sharp change in the international balance of power.
"Global leadership of the United States is declining, while China’s global leadership is rising," Teuku Rezasyah said when contacted by Media Indonesia on Monday (7/6). He added that the dynamics of conflict in the Middle East, such as Iran’s resilience, serve as an indicator of the weakening of US military dominance and allied support.
In the long term, Rezasyah predicts the world will move towards a multipolar system. In this order, Indonesia has the opportunity to become a strategic node for various international powers, ranging from the Non-Aligned Movement and the Arab League to MIKTA and the D-8.
President Prabowo Subianto’s leadership style, which is considered firm, measured, and capable of building close relationships with various world leaders, is also a key attraction. The combination of this leadership style with Indonesia’s economic strength and geographical position in the Indo-Pacific makes the country a new reference point on the global stage.
Rezasyah stressed that the government should capitalise on this momentum to produce concrete cooperation. He emphasised the importance of consistency in implementing international agreements to ensure they deliver tangible benefits for the wider community.
"Indonesia should be consistent with all agreements that have been made. All these agreements should have measurable achievements for the people," he concluded.
