World in Panic Over Energy and Food Crisis, Prabowo: We Are Still Safe
President Prabowo has stated that countries around the world are panicking due to threats of energy and food crises. However, according to Prabowo, Indonesia remains safe from both threats because of its food self-sufficiency. “Brothers and sisters, pay attention, the entire world is in crisis, many countries are already panicking, but we are still safe, we have food self-sufficiency, our food is secure,” Prabowo said, quoted from Kompas.com on Friday (1/5/2026). The government aims to achieve national energy independence in the long term. “Our fuel is still secure, in a few years we will achieve fuel self-sufficiency, energy self-sufficiency,” he explained. The goal is to prevent workers from mass layoffs. “Don’t worry, we will defend the interests of workers threatened with layoffs, we will defend and protect them. If there are entrepreneurs who give up, don’t worry, our state is strong, our state will defend the Indonesian people, don’t worry,” Prabowo clarified. These houses will be built near industrial areas to ease rental costs and transportation for workers. “We have already built quite a lot this year, up to 350,000 houses, but our target is at least one million houses, we will start this year also one million houses and these houses will be made in clusters near industrial areas, close to workplaces, as per your suggestions,” Prabowo explained in front of the May Day action crowd at Monas on Friday (1/5/2026), quoted from Kontan. For example, the construction of daycare facilities, hospitals, schools, public transport, and high-rise housing. The aim is to stimulate the wheels of the economy. “And I order that there must be schools, there must be sports facilities, there must be daycare, there must be hospitals, and most importantly there must be transport,” said Prabowo.
