World Hit by Crisis, US and South Korea Unite Forces

The global memory shortage crisis that has been impacting the world for several months continues. Chip giants Nvidia and SK Hynix are working to overcome this crisis. The US and South Korean chip giants are reported to be collaborating to tackle the issue, with both companies announcing their cooperation today.

A spokesperson for SK Hynix confirmed the reports, adding that Chairman Chey Tae-won and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang will provide further explanations regarding the plan. Separately, Huang expressed similar sentiments, revealing that a joint announcement with SK Hynix is forthcoming, though he did not provide specific details.

“We work in several industries, from AI supercomputers to CPUs, new PCs, and robotics. Therefore, we are planning here, and there may be several announcements tomorrow,” said Huang, as quoted by Reuters on Monday (8/6/2026).

During the occasion, he also addressed the global memory shortage, stating that he does not see an end to the crisis. He noted that this phenomenon has affected the entire industrial supply chain and is likely to persist for several years.

“The entire industrial supply chain, from wafers to packaging to silicon photonics… everything is experiencing supply shortages due to high demand. This will continue for the next few years,” Huang said.

Huang is known to have met with Chey and several other SK Hynix executives, including CEO Kwak Noh-jung, during his recent visit to South Korea. The group met for ‘chimaek’ (fried chicken and beer) at the Kkanbu Chicken restaurant in Seoul.
