World Delegations Arrive in Tehran for Ali Khamenei's Funeral

A number of official delegations from various countries began arriving in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Friday (3/7), to attend the funeral ceremonies for former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The arrival of these world leaders follows Khamenei’s death in a combined attack by the United States and Israel on 28 February.

According to reports from Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, several high-ranking officials who have landed in Tehran include Iraqi President Nizar Amidi, Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, and Uzbek Parliament Speaker Nuriddin Ismoilov. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was also present, leading his country’s official delegation.

In addition to heads of state, Iranian media reported the presence of representatives from various international groups and organisations. The official memorial ceremony, attended by heads of state and religious leaders, is scheduled to take place on Friday. However, the series of final tribute processions will last a full week at several strategic locations.

The death of Ali Khamenei has triggered significant regional tension over recent weeks. The continued arrival of foreign delegations throughout the day demonstrates the wide-ranging geopolitical impact of the event. Iranian authorities expect the number of international mourners to continue growing until the peak of the funeral procession in Mashhad next Thursday.
