World Cup OC chief asked to resign

SEOUL (AFP): South Korea's Culture Tourism Minister Park Jie- won said the government was considering dismissing 2002 World Cup Organizing Committee head Park Seh-jik.

"The government has been considering replacing chairman Park since December last year," the minister was quoted by an official of the ministry as telling the National Assembly on Friday.

The independent Hankyoreh Daily on Saturday quoted Park Seh- jik as saying he had come under pressure from the government to resign from his post.

"As you came to the post politically, I hope you leave it politically as well," Park Seh-jik quoted the minister as saying.

Park Seh-jik is on bad terms with South Korea's soccer association chairman, Chung Mong-jun, and activities of the organizing committee have been lackluster, the minister told Park.
