The National Agency for Export Development (NAFED), financially supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), will organize a three-day workshop in Yogyakarta next week to promote exports by small and medium-size businesses.
UNDP's chief representative for Indonesia, Jan C. Kamp (right), told reporters in a press conference in Jakarta yesterday that about 100 executives from small and medium size businesses are expected to take part in the workshop, which will be opened on March 14.
NAFED's chief, Rudy Lengkong (center), explained that out of the 124,990 small businesses surveyed by the agency in 1993, only 4.3 percent were involved in export activities. Most, however, did export their products through third parties.
Small businesses, he said, have difficulties in terms of finance, management and marketing, when exporting their products.
"We will provide intensive counseling at the Yogyakarta workshop on export procedures," he said.
