Workshop Lift Collapses in Solo, Killing One Worker and Injuring Another

A lift at a motorcycle workshop fell, killing a worker in the Adi Sumarmo road area of Banyuanyar sub-village, Banjarsari district, Solo. Preliminary suspicions suggest the lift fell because the safety catch or sling-rope lock came loose.

“The initial crime scene examination suggests that the safety catch or lock on the sling rope may not have been sufficiently tight, causing the hook to come loose. However, the exact cause of the incident is still under further investigation,” explained AKP Lingga Ramadhani, head of public relations at Solo Police, in a press statement reported by detikJateng on Thursday (23/7/2026).

Two workers fell victim in the incident. They were BEP (20) and MN (56), residents of Nusukan sub-village, Banjarsari. BEP was reported dead, whilst MN sustained injuries.

The incident was first noticed by a witness who was arranging spare parts on the ground floor at around 10.30am Western Indonesia Time. The witness suddenly heard a very loud crash, which turned out to be the goods lift.

“Upon checking, the witness found MN lying on the ground near the goods lift, with injuries to his right leg,” said Lingga.

Fellow workers immediately rushed to help the victims. At the same time, they heard someone shouting from the second floor.
