Workshop Lift Collapses in Solo, Killing One Worker and Injuring Another
A lift at a motorcycle workshop on Jalan Adi Sumarmo, Banyuanyar, Banjarsari, Solo, collapsed, killing a worker. Preliminary indications suggest the lift fell because the safety mechanism or lock on the sling cable was loose. ‘The initial crime scene investigation indicates the safety mechanism or lock on the sling cable may not have been tight enough, causing the hook to detach. However, the exact cause of the incident is still under further investigation,’ explained Solo Police Public Relations Head AKP Lingga Ramadhani in a press release on Thursday (23/7/2026). Two workers became victims in the incident. They were identified as BEP (20) and MN (56), residents of Nusukan, Banjarsari. BEP was reported dead, while MN sustained injuries. The incident was first discovered by a witness who was arranging spare parts on the first floor at around 10:30 a.m. local time. The witness suddenly heard a very loud sound of a falling object, which turned out to be the goods lift. ‘Upon checking, the witness found MN lying on his back near the goods lift, with an injury to his right leg,’ Lingga said. Other colleagues immediately provided assistance to the victim. At the same time, they heard someone shouting from the second floor.
