Workshop fire in Cikupa, Tangerang leaves one dead trapped in toilet

A workshop on Jalan Raya Pesar in Sukamulya Village, Cikupa District, Tangerang Regency, Banten, caught fire, resulting in one fatality.

Cikupa Police Station’s Criminal Investigation Unit Head, Ipda Syaiful Rusdiansyah, stated the fire occurred around 2.26pm. The blaze started when an employee was welding a motorcycle inside the workshop.

“Specific causes are still under investigation, and we are currently interviewing witnesses,” Syaiful told Antara on Saturday (30 May 2026).

The deceased, identified as JA (19), was found inside the bathroom with severe burns to her entire body.

The victim’s body was transported to Balaraja Regional Hospital for further handling. Syaiful added that investigators are conducting a thorough examination of the scene and witness testimonies to determine the fire’s cause.

Tangerang Regency’s Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) deployed two fire engines to extinguish the blaze, which took several hours to put out before the area was declared safe.
