Working Visit to South Korea, Prabowo Brings Home Investment Souvenirs Worth Rp173 Trillion

President Prabowo Subianto’s working visit to South Korea has resulted in investment commitments worth Rp173 trillion through the signing of 17 memoranda of understanding (MoUs). The value equates to US$10.2 billion and was agreed upon between Indonesian and South Korean business actors at the “Indonesia–Korea Partnership for Resilient Growth” forum in Seoul on Wednesday (1/4). Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto conveyed this achievement after attending the forum. “In that meeting, MoUs worth US$10.2 billion or around Rp173 trillion were signed,” Airlangga told Antara in Seoul. The collaborations cover various strategic sectors, from energy to industry. Airlangga stated that the sectors included energy and green transition, encompassing solar power, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and renewable energy. Additionally, the cooperation extends to the industrial and manufacturing sectors such as steel, batteries, and eco-friendly transportation. Airlangga mentioned that the investments also encompass the digital sector and artificial intelligence (AI), as well as property and infrastructure, including developments in the Bumi Serpong Damai area. “The investments also include the digital sector and AI. Then property and infrastructure, including developments in Bumi Serpong Damai, and business and association cooperation between Kadin and KCCI, particularly to encourage business commitments,” he continued. Several major South Korean companies are strengthening their investment commitments in Indonesia. POSCO’s steel industry development is one of the projects being continued, while Lotte has also shown investment interest, opening opportunities for collaboration with Danantara as a partner. Airlangga added that this achievement complements the results of President Prabowo’s previous visit to Japan. “This means the President’s visits to these two countries have resulted in investment commitments of Rp574 trillion,” Airlangga revealed. According to him, this achievement demonstrates that Indonesia remains an attractive investment destination amid global geopolitical uncertainties. “This is a very significant figure because Indonesia, in this uncertain geopolitical situation, still attracts investors from both Japan and Korea,” he added. The government is also preparing steps to improve the investment climate through debottlenecking mechanisms. “We are preparing debottlenecking mechanisms so that all issues faced by the business world can be resolved quickly,” he concluded.
