Workers want court to disburse salaries

JAKARTA: Dozens of workers of security service provider Securicor staged a rally in front of the South Jakarta District Court on Thursday morning, asking the court to disburse their two-month salaries.

The money was handed by Securicor management to the court as part of a settlement made between the management and the workers involved in a labor dispute.

"We need that money," said Securicor workers union chairman Dedi Toisuta, who led the rally.

Court head Sudarto told the protesting workers that the money was being kept in a state account, "but it could be immediately disbursed without additional fees".

He handed a check for Rp 355 million to the workers' lawyer Made Rahman Marabessy.

At least 265 workers, who have not been paid for six months, reported the management to the manpower agency.

The Jakarta committee for the settlement of labor disputes decided on June 19 that the workers were only entitled to two month's salary payment. -- JP
