Workers view Lebaran WFA policy as providing flexibility without disrupting productivity
Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - Several workers have assessed the work from anywhere (WFA) policy during the Lebaran holiday period as providing flexibility in working while allowing them to arrange their homecoming trips earlier. Private sector employee Reinha Delima stated that the policy serves as a beneficial solution for both workers and companies. “In my view, this is a win-win solution; the company still wants its employees to be productive, and we can head home early to meet family,” said Reinha to ANTARA at a cafe in the Gelanggang Inovasi dan Kreativitas (GIK) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) on Wednesday. She explained that even when working from flexible locations, work discipline remains paramount, including preparing a comfortable workspace to ensure activities run optimally. “I still maintain my working hours. Although flexible, there are sometimes tasks at night, but so far it can still be managed,” she said. “Usually, the holiday is only about a week, now it can be up to two weeks in the village. So, more time with family,” said Dias. Nevertheless, she acknowledged challenges in work coordination during WFA, particularly regarding communication with colleagues. “Communication becomes a challenge, especially if the signal is poor. At the office, you can meet directly,” she said. Meanwhile, creative worker Muhammad Andhika Febriansyah views the WFA policy as helping to improve work efficiency because travel time can be redirected to completing tasks. “WFA saves travel time, so you can focus more on work. You can also work from home or a cafe to get a new atmosphere,” said Dika when interviewed by ANTARA at the same cafe. “If the work isn’t finished, I still prioritise work first,” he said. The government previously set the WFA policy for the periods of 16-17 March and 25-27 March 2026 to reduce the density of homecoming and return traffic during Lebaran. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that the work flexibility is provided to support societal mobility without disrupting productivity. “To optimise societal mobility, flexibility in setting working days is given,” said Airlangga. This policy is also expected to maintain the smooth running of public services and economic activities during the national holiday and collective leave period for Lebaran.
