Workers Urge DPR to Take Labour Bill Seriously

The Grand Coalition of Indonesian Labour Fighters has urged the House of Representatives (DPR) to be serious in discussing the Labour Bill. This was emphasised by the President of the Confederation of All Indonesian Workers’ Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, following a meeting with Deputy Speaker of the DPR Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal and the Labour Bill Working Committee on Monday, 3 August 2026. “Therefore, the Grand Coalition of Indonesian Labour Fighters reminds the DPR and the government to be serious in the deliberation of the Labour Bill,” Andi told reporters at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta. Andi expressed hope that the government and DPR would not repeat the controversy that occurred during the drafting of the Job Creation Law, also known as the Omnibus Law. The labour coalition does not want the drafting of the Labour Bill to become a polemic that triggers massive waves of demonstrations. “Because we do not want it to be like the Omnibus Law, which was crammed, multi-volume, very long, and faced very strong resistance across all of Indonesia,” he said. On the occasion, Andi also appreciated the DPR’s move to open a space for dialogue in the drafting of the Labour Bill. “Hopefully, this will result in a labour law that is not only pro-worker but also favourable to all parties, to all stakeholders,” Andi concluded.
