JAKARTA - A number of workers will hold a demonstration to commemorate International Labour Day (May Day) on 1 May 2026 in front of the DPR/MPR RI building in Senayan, Jakarta.

KSPI President Said Iqbal stated that the 1 May action will be joined by KSPI member workers and Labour Party sympathisers from Greater Jakarta.

“The action in front of the DPR/MPR will start at 10.00 WIB until finished. This May Day action will not join or be together with other trade unions,” Iqbal said during an online press conference on Monday (6/4/2026).

First, KSPI members request that the commemoration not be combined with other organisations.

Second, KSPI wants to maintain the dignity of President Prabowo Subianto.

According to Iqbal, the demands for May Day 2026 are still the same as the previous year, so they chose the protest location at the DPR.

“So we want to safeguard it, because if there is any mention, ‘Why are the demands the same as last year?’. Therefore, we also chose the location at the DPR,” Iqbal explained.

He then outlined the six demands in the action. First, urging the ratification of the Labour Bill.

Second, abolishing the outsourcing system and rejecting low wages. Iqbal mentioned that President Prabowo had previously promised to abolish outsourcing, so workers are demanding its realisation.

“If the war drags on, industrial fuel prices will rise and production costs will soar,” he continued.

Fourth, KSPI and the Labour Party are pushing for tax reform.

Fifth, urging the prompt ratification of the Domestic Workers Protection Bill (PPRT).

Sixth, KSPI and the Labour Party are demanding that the Asset Seizure Law be promptly enacted to maximise corruption eradication.

Iqbal continued that, besides the action in Jakarta, the May Day commemoration by KSPI and the Labour Party will also be held in various cities across 38 provinces.

Including Bandung, Surabaya, Semarang, Serang, Yogyakarta, Medan, Batam, Lampung, Banjarmasin, Samarinda, Pontianak, Makassar, Gorontalo, Morowali, Ambon, Ternate, Jayapura, Mataram, Lombok, Kupang, up to Mimika.
