JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Approximately 200,000 workers from various regions in Indonesia are expected to fill the Monas area for the commemoration of International Labour Day or May Day 2026 on 1 May 2026.

President of the All-Indonesian Confederation of Workers’ Unions (KSPSI) Andi Gani Nena Wea stated that President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to attend and deliver a speech at 08:30 WIB.

“President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to attend,” said Andi Gani in his statement on Wednesday (15/4/2026).

After attending the May Day commemoration at Monas, Prabowo is scheduled to continue his journey to Nganjuk, East Java.

There, he will inaugurate the Ibu Marsinah Museum together with government officials and labour union leaders.

“In Nganjuk, the President will inaugurate the Ibu Marsinah Museum, which will be attended by around 115 confederations and federations of workers from across Indonesia,” said Andi.

In addition, several KSPSI Advisory Board members will be present, including Yuda Gustawan, Imam Widodo, Ferriyady Hartadinata, Arsjad Rasjid, and Cahyono Wibowo.

On that occasion, Andi Gani also revealed that the government is preparing an announcement regarding improvements to worker welfare.

The announcement is planned to be delivered by President Prabowo upon his return from overseas visits, including from Russia.

On the other hand, he also appreciated the resolution of several large-scale layoff (PHK) cases handled by the Police’s Labour Desk.

“Some of them occurred at PT Tarumartani Yogyakarta, PT Daechang in Bekasi, and PT Multistrada in Bekasi,” he said.

Meanwhile, Police Chief General Listyo Sigit invited all labour and business elements to jointly celebrate May Day 2026 at Monas.

He emphasised the importance of the moment as a symbol of togetherness between workers, business owners, and the government.

“I invite business friends to join together in attending and celebrating our birthday event at Monas, which will be attended by the President, and let us all make this workers’ birthday a joint victory for Indonesia and for Indonesian workers,” he concluded.
