Workers to Celebrate Labour Day with Prabowo at Monas

JAKARTA - Workers will celebrate Labour Day or May Day 2026 in the National Monument (Monas) area, Jakarta, on Friday (1/5/2026). The number is estimated to reach hundreds of thousands of people.

Labour Minister Yassierli said he heard the information from the Labour Day commemoration committee.

The information states that President Prabowo Subianto will attend the Labour Day commemoration at Monas.

“Mr President will be present, insyaallah, along with more than 200,000 workers, if what I heard from the committee is from worker union friends, labour unions,” said Yassierli when met at his office in Jakarta on Wednesday (29/4/2026).

However, Yassierli declined to reveal what form the gift would take.

“We’ll just wait until tomorrow,” said Yassierli.

According to Said, the number of workers celebrating May Day with Prabowo at Monas is around 100,000 people.

He said that tens of thousands of KSPI workers come from Jabodetabek, Karawang, Purwakarta, Subang, Greater Bandung, Greater Cirebon, Cilegon, Serang, Cianjur, and Sukabumi.

“The number of masses that will join the May Day celebration at Monas, especially from KSPI, is 50,000 people,” said Said in a virtual press conference.

However, after meeting President Prabowo on Tuesday (28/4/2026) and conveying 11 demands, KSPI decided to join the May Day celebration at Monas.

“The discussion, which lasted almost an hour and a half, KSPI, supported by the Labour Party, decided to hold the May Day celebration together with Mr President Prabowo Subianto and other labour union friends at Monas,” he said.

Besides in Jakarta, said Said, KSPI members will also commemorate Labour Day in Makassar, Manado, Gorontalo, Morowali, Kendari, Konawe, Ambon, Mimika, Kupang, Lombok, and others.

“So the KSPI May Day celebration action supported by the Labour Party is spread across 38 provinces and more than 350 regencies/cities,” said Said.
