Workers send home Rp 40b per month

MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: Indonesian migrant workers have sent back Rp 253.41 billion (US$26.7 million) to their families or some Rp 40 billion a month, in the past six months from January to June.

It was a sharp increase compared to the same period last year, when the migrant workers sent back between Rp 25 billion to Rp 30 billion a month, said Purnomo Rahardjo, the head of the Manpower Placement and Service Office in the West Nusa Tenggara province.

The rise was attributed to better worker' protection and productivity abroad, said Purnomo on Thursday. -- Antara
