Workers seek termination

PEKANBARU, Riau: Eighty timber truck drivers of PT Sola Gratia
Plywood company held a demonstrated on Monday, demanding a
termination of their contracts and compensation.

The drivers said that since the company was bought by the Raja
Garuda Mas business group in the middle of last year, their
welfare has been neglected, Antara reported.

"It'd be better for us if they just fire us and give us the
compensation money as regulated in the government decree, than if
we go on working in this condition," one worker said.

The drivers were reportedly paid only Rp 40,000 (US$ 17).
Since mid-December, the drivers have not been given any job, the
agency reported.

It was not yet clear whether the remaining of the 2,400
employees of the company would also asked to be dismissed. (swe)
