Workers Rally at Indomaret Tower in PIK with Protest Banners Against Intimidation
Workers began assembling outside Indomaret Tower in Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK), North Jakarta, on Tuesday (26 May 2026).
At around 9:40am WIB, protesters arrived by bus and parked their vehicles in front of shops adjacent to the tower. After arriving, they gathered and marched to the protest site at the turning point from Marina Raya Road to Pantai Indah Kapuk Road.
One banner carried by the protesters sarcastically read: “Indomaret employees’ promise to uphold intervention, intimidation, repression.”
Upon arrival, the crowd began speeches and chanted prayers.
The protest caused traffic congestion and queues on Marina Raya Road. Vehicles from Marina Raya Road were unable to turn directly towards Pantai Indah Kapuk Road leading to the Outer Ring Road toll entrance. Drivers were directed to loop around PIK Avenue before proceeding to Pantai Indah Kapuk Road and the toll access.
A spokesperson for the North Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Iptu Maryatti Jonggi, confirmed the demonstration. Police had deployed security at the site since morning.
FSPMI Indomarco stated that thousands of workers from various regions participated. “Approximately 1,000 workers from Indomaret Jabodetabek and 1,500 from 11 trade union federations under the Indonesian Workers’ Union Confederation (KSPI) took part in the protest,” they said via text message on Friday.
During the protest, workers presented six demands, including: “Get more quota, understand news faster, and delve deeper into KOMPAS.com articles.”
