Workers protest management change
TANGERANG (JP): About 1,400 workers from PT Cometstar Electrida, a producer of electric lamps, on Jl. Raya Pasar Kemis staged a sit-in to protest a management change.
The workers strongly rejected Tuesday the handover of the company's management to PT Osram Indonesia as the decision was made without consultation.
"The old management should have let us know that the management and its assets would be handed over to another company," one of the workers, who did not want to be identified, said, adding that the issue was important because it affected their future.
Workers would accept the transfer under the condition that the new management employed all existing staff.
An agreement was reached later in the day between workers' representatives and PT Cometstar.
Those who want to continue working under the new management are welcomed, while those who want to quit will receive the proper severance pay. (41/04)
