Workers protest low severance pay

JAKARTA: Dozens of workers from bag manufacturer PT Tassa Zenis Indonesia in Tangerang staged a rally in front of the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration building on Monday, protesting the low severance payment given by their company.

"The company management only provided some Rp 900 million in severance payment for around 660 workers dismissed on Nov. 8," said the workers' spokesman, Nurcholish.

He said many workers considered the payment too low, given that the company had not gone bankrupt.

The workers began their action last Thursday, he said. --JP
