Workers' Masses Begin to Gather at DPR Building, Traffic Flow Still Smooth
Workers’ masses have begun arriving for a demonstration in commemoration of Labour Day or May Day 2026 in front of the DPR building ahead of Friday (1/6) afternoon. Based on observations by CNNIndonesia.com, the protesting masses were seen arriving using command vehicles. The protesting masses then immediately operated and conveyed their aspirations from atop the command vehicles. Meanwhile, traffic flow in front of the DPR building is still monitored as smooth. The police have not yet carried out road closures or traffic diversions. Nevertheless, several police officers were seen already on guard at various points to secure the demonstration. Previously, Polda Metro Jaya deployed a combined 6,678 personnel to secure the demonstration commemorating Labour Day or May Day 2026 in front of the DPR building. The demonstration was organised by the Indonesian Trade Union Alliance Congress Confederation (KASBI) to the United Workers’ Movement for the People (GEBRAK). “The number of personnel involved in security around the DPR-MPR is 6,678 personnel,” said the Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, to reporters. Budi stated that the demonstration is estimated to be attended by 5,000 masses from various regions, starting from Jakarta, Banten to West Java. Budi explained that representatives of the masses are also planned to meet with DPR leaders in the afternoon to convey their aspirations. “The DPR leadership side will receive the representatives. This is a negotiation, something well received from the representatives of the Republic of Indonesia DPR to be able to receive mass representatives,” he said.
