Workers Flock by Motorbike to Attend May Day 2026 Commemoration at Monas

Thousands of workers riding motorbikes arrived at Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan on Friday (1/5/2026). They came in droves to attend the May Day or International Labour Day commemoration at Monas. The event was also attended by President Prabowo Subianto. Observations at the location showed that the workers riding motorbikes appeared to crowd Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan towards Gambir Station in an orderly manner. They were seen wearing May Day badges. Some also carried flags of their respective trade unions. One trade union organisation, the Indonesian Confederation of Trade Unions (KSPI), outlined at least 11 main demands in this year’s International Labour Day (May Day) celebration. The demands range from urging the government to immediately enact a new Labour Bill that better protects workers. Then, the abolition of the outsourcing work system and rejection of low-wage practices. Workers also demand the appointment of teachers and honorary staff, especially those with part-time PPPK status, as full civil servants (ASN). On the other hand, workers also request the enactment of the asset seizure bill to strengthen anti-corruption efforts.
