MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: Ten women workers who arrived at the Selaparang airport in Matraman, East Lombok from Malaysia were forced to pay exorbitant fares taxi drivers on their way home on Thursday.
Lilik Madyono, president of PT Amestara Raya Corp., said on Friday that the ten workers complained that they were forced to pay Rp 75,000 each when they took three taxies to transport them from the airport to East Lombok.
"Midway on the journey, the workers were also forced to buy fruit and cigarettes for the taxi drivers", he said. The taxi company has set a fare of Rp 75,000 per passenger regardless of the number of passengers.
He said airport authorities and the local police should investigate the extortion to prevent such an shameful incident from occurring in the future. --Antara
