Workers enjoy higher wages

SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: The monthly minimum wage in East Kalimantan province has been increased 6.03 percent from Rp 540,000 (US$ 60) last year to Rp 572.562 this year, an official revealed on Thursday.

Masrihadi, the head of Manpower and Transmigration Office at the East Kalimantan provincial administration, said the increased minimum wage was formally decided by the East Kalimantan governor last year and took effect on Jan. 1 this year.

The official did not reveal whether any local employers had objected to the wage hike. -- JP
