Workers demand revocation of three government regulations derived from Omnibus Law during DPR hearing

Revoke first all Government Regulations, namely Number 34, Number 35, Number 36.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) Said Iqbal has called for three Government Regulations (PP) derived from the Omnibus Law on the Job Creation Law (UU Cipta Kerja) to be revoked during a hearing with the House of Representatives (DPR) to discuss the draft Labour Bill.

The regulations requested for revocation are PP Number 34 of 2021, PP Number 35 of 2021, and PP Number 36 of 2021. He assessed that these rules allow workers laid off due to efficiency measures to receive severance pay of 0.5 times the stipulated amount.

“Now, this must be revoked. Revoke first all Government Regulations, namely Number 34, Number 35, Number 36,” said Said during the hearing with the Indonesian DPR at the parliamentary complex, Jakarta, Thursday.

He said that the Labour Bill must regulate that workers’ wages should be decent, not cheap wages. In addition, the employment relationship system must not allow easy hiring and easy firing.

Furthermore, he also requested that the Labour Bill abolish the term outsourcing or contract work. If not, according to him, the outsourcing system needs to be limited in accordance with the direction of the Constitutional Court.

In principle, he said that the good aspects contained in the Job Creation Omnibus Law do not need to be removed. One of them is the derivative regulation in PP Number 37 of 2027 which regulates job loss insurance.

“I think that can also be used as a main reference in the discussion of the Labour Bill. And we see very intensively that our friends continue to convey these ideas,” he said.
