Workers at Monas May Day Hope Prabowo's Policies Continue
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The commemoration of International Labour Day (May Day), attended by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at Monas Field in Jakarta on Friday, provided a platform for workers to voice their aspirations while assessing the impact of government policies. Ahmad Zainuddin, a worker from PT Mayora Indah in Tangerang, said he has begun to feel the effects of several policies under the Prabowo administration. He believes the president’s attendance at the May Day event carries special significance for workers. “(The president’s presence) in my view has a very positive meaning, especially for workers in Indonesia. It also enlivens the aspirations of the community regarding workers in Indonesia,” Ahmad stated. Nevertheless, Ahmad noted that workers still face challenges, particularly concerning welfare and living costs, such as transportation and daily necessities. Therefore, he hopes for wage increases and additional allowances. “The challenge for us workers is regarding employee salaries; the government should raise them further,” he said. He added that government programmes deemed to have a positive impact should be continued and improved, including strengthening worker protections against the threat of termination of employment (PHK). “We hope Mr President continues for two terms for the Indonesian nation. Especially for workers, the policies should be further enhanced along with the status of employee protection,” he remarked.
