Worker Thrown from Tree During Felling Process in Depok Causes Panic Among Residents
A worker was thrown from a tree while felling a tree at Jembatan Serong, Cipayung, Depok, West Java, causing panic among local residents.
According to video footage obtained by reporters, the victim was initially felling a tree on the side of Jalan Raya Cipayung. The victim had climbed and positioned himself on a branch to cut the upper part of the tree trunk.
Traffic on Jalan Raya Cipayung was temporarily closed during the tree-felling process. Several commuters watched the operation while waiting for the road to reopen.
Initially, the process of cutting the upper part of the tree trunk appeared successful, prompting cheers from onlookers. However, as the trunk fell, the end of the branch struck the worker, causing him to be thrown and fall from the tree. Passers-by screamed in distress upon witnessing the worker being knocked off by the falling trunk.
Head Injuries Sustained
AKP Hendra Kurniawan, Head of Public Relations for the Depok Metro Police, explained that the incident occurred on Wednesday (2/9) at 13:10 WIB at Jembatan Serong, Cipayung, Depok. The worker was felling the tree as part of a road widening project for Jalan Raya Cipayung.
“During the tree-felling work, the victim was positioned atop the tree, using a motorised chainsaw,” Hendra stated in a briefing on Thursday (3/9/2026).
At the time, three of the victim’s colleagues were on the ground holding ropes tied to the tree to assist in pulling the trunk down once cut.
“When the tree was cut and began to fall, the victim fell along with it,” he explained.
The victim fell onto the asphalt along with the chainsaw from a height of approximately 5 to 10 metres. He sustained bleeding injuries, estimated to be around the ear or head area.
The victim was initially taken to the Citama Hospital Clinic for medical attention before being transferred via ambulance to RSU Bhakti Yudha for further treatment.
