Worker smuggling foiled
PEMALANG, Central Java: Police have foiled an attempt to
smuggle 46 Indonesians into Malaysia and Singapore to work
illegally.
Police stopped the bus that was taking them to Pekanbaru,
Riau. Only two people were arrested, one the man believed to be
the organizer and another, his bodyguard, Antara reported.
Pemalang Police chief Lt. Col. Sudibyo said the 46 prospective
workers have all been sent back to their villages in Batang and
Kendal.
Most of these workers paid hefty fees to the brokers, not
knowing that they were going to be smuggled into Singapore and
Malaysia. They had all been duped into believing that their move
was all legal, Sudibyo said. (emb)
