JAKARTA (JP): A group of drunk men recently abducted and tortured a factory worker in Tangerang, west of here.
City police spokesman Lt. Col. Iman Haryatna told reporters yesterday that Sanudin, 24, was having his breaking of the fast meal at a rice stall on Monday when a drunk man came and hit him.
Sanudin parried the jab and pushed the assailant to the ground.
The man, later identified as Win Pereira, left but returned with seven friends who forced Sanudin into a van.
Arriving at an empty house in Curug, Tangerang, the group attacked Sanudin with machetes, a crowbar and stick.
The drunk men also shaved Sanudin's head, which they then beat with a crowbar, Iman quoted Sanudin as saying.
Iman said the by then unconscious Sanudin was taken to a house in the Perumnas housing complex, also in Tangerang.
Sanudin regained consciousness and ran away. He suffered wounds to the face, stomach and back.
A friend of Sanudin who saw him leave with the group of men told Sanudin's relatives, who reported to local police.
Several hours later police arrested five men. They were picked up from a drink stall in the area.
The five are identified as Win Pareira, Sariono, Syahril Budiman, Miftahudin and Surono. The other three are still at large.
Sanudin is being treated at the Tangerang hospital for serious injuries. (14)
