Worker dies of gas poisoning

BEKASI: A worker in a textile factory owned by PT Sioen Indonesia (Sungitex) on Jl. Narogong, Bantargebang, Bekasi, died of gas inhalation while working on Wednesday.

At least 100 other workers were still being treated in various hospitals as of Thursday.

According to the workers, Ernawati, a resident of Cileungsi, West Java, was found dead at about 7 a.m. on Wednesday. They said there were blue marks on her neck.

At the same time, seven other workers were found unconscious and later taken to the hospital. More workers were brought to hospital later in the day.

Tony Rusbianto, a doctor at the Karya Medika health clinic, which treated four of the workers, said the workers had inhaled gas produced by a chemical substance in the factory. -- JP
