Worker arrested for raping minors
JAKARTA (JP): The West Jakarta Police have named a 20-year-old man as the main suspect in the recent rape of four girls, aged between four and seven years.
Jakarta Police Spokesman Lt. Col. Iman Haryatna said yesterday that the police reached a conclusion on Monday following intensive interrogation sessions of the suspect, Matius Boha Gule, since the day of his arrest two weeks ago.
"Besides the available evidence and eyewitnesses, the suspect himself has admitted to committing the crime," Iman told reporters.
Based on police data, Matius, a daily construction worker, is believed to have sexually molested four daughters of his neighbors on Jl. Duri Bangkit of the Jembatan Besi subdistrict in Tambora, Iman said.
Two of the victims are four years old and the other two are aged five and seven, said the spokesman.
According to police preliminary investigation, Matius first approached the minors three months ago by luring them with candies and small change of between Rp 100 and Rp 300.
"After sleeping with them, the suspect always threatened the small girls not to tell anybody," Iman said.
The rapes took place in an empty house near their homes, mostly during the midday hours when most of the residents were at work.
"Some of the girls have been raped two or three times," said Iman.
Medical reports
Medical reports said that the hymens of all of the girls had been broken, said the spokesman.
"We also seized a bedsheet with blood stains on it," Iman said.
The local police became aware of the alleged rapes only after the female owner of the empty house, Babay, 24, allegedly witnessed one of the rapes.
Babay's information shed light on why the girls had complained to their mothers of discomfort when urinating.
The local people then reported the case to the police, who then carried out a massive investigation.
Spokesman Iman said that the local police are now seeking the help of psychiatrist to find out if the suspect was suffering a mental problem. (bsr)
