The government will soon announce the work-from-home (WFH) policy before the end of March. This was revealed by Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto.

“It will be announced before the end of the month (March),” he stated, as quoted on Saturday, 28 March 2026.

The policy is initiated as a measure to curb petroleum fuel (BBM) consumption amid pressures from global energy prices.

Previously, Airlangga explained that the WFH scheme is planned to apply for one day per week to civil servants (ASN), including Civil Servants (PNS) and Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK). For the private sector, the policy will be in the form of recommendations.

Nevertheless, the government has not yet set a specific date for the announcement of the policy.

“Approximately this week,” he said.

The government has decided to implement the one-day-per-week WFH policy, namely every Friday. This step is prepared as a response to the rise in world oil prices triggered by tensions in the Middle East region.

On the other hand, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the decision regarding the WFH policy has been finalised and will soon be announced by the government.

“It has been decided, it will be announced later, it’s not me who speaks, it’s not me (announcing) later, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy (Airlangga Hartarto),” said Purbaya.

Regarding the target of reducing BBM consumption by up to 20 percent, Purbaya mentioned that there are calculations pointing to potential savings, although not yet certain.

He assessed that the impact of the WFH policy should not only be viewed from the energy savings side but also from the boost to economic activity.

“My savings might not be there, because the economy becomes active, business rises quickly, consumption rises. But if my taxes also rise, in line with that, I’m benefiting too,” he stated.
