The government is currently reviewing a policy on work flexibility through a one-day Work From Home (WFH) scheme in every five working days. This is being done to save energy in response to the rise in oil prices due to the war involving the United States (US), Israel, and Iran. General Chairman of the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) Shinta W Kamdani said that regarding the discourse on policies such as work from home (WFH), the design of the policy to be implemented by the government must first be examined. “If this discourse is eventually implemented, it certainly cannot be implemented uniformly across all sectors,” she told Kompas.com on Friday (20/3/2026). She added that many real sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, trade, and services directly related to field operations still require the physical presence of workers and operational mobility. “So that production and distribution activities can run smoothly,” she added. “In addition to looking at sectors, the type of activity and work also needs to be considered whether it can be done with the WFH scheme or not,” Shinta explained. The business world views that arrangements for work patterns like this should be left to the design and internal policies of each company, so they can be adjusted to operational needs and sector characteristics. Therefore, if this policy discourse is to be considered further, the business world sees the importance of more in-depth studies as well as space for discussion with business actors. Shinta said that in principle, the business world understands that the current global energy market dynamics can indeed impact the increase in domestic energy and logistics costs. “Thus, various policies or efficiency measures considered by the government certainly need to be a joint concern,” she said. She added that the business world is also observing the efforts that the government will take to maintain energy supply stability while managing fuel prices so as not to disrupt community economic activities.
