Infrastructure supporting electric vehicles continues to develop, one of which is through the provision of fast charging facilities for two-wheeled vehicles.

Recently, several electric motorcycle users shared positive experiences when utilising the prototype charging device at the PLN Central Engineering Centre on Jalan KS Tubun, West Jakarta.

In detail, there are eight sockets with different types. First, there is an AC Type 2 like for cars, AC Socket Type F, four DC Choguri female, and two DC Choguri male.

This charging facility has come into the spotlight due to its ability to cut down waiting times that are usually a nightmare for electric motorcycle users.

“Very helpful, so no need to bring an extra charger. Charging is also faster,” said Dimas to Kompas.com recently.

According to him, if using the standard charger from 5 per cent battery condition, the charging time can take 3.5 to 4 hours. However, with the fast charging facility, full charging only takes about one hour.

“Why did I choose here? Because the queues at the dealership are already unreasonable, you can wait two to three hours just to queue for the motorcycle to enter, not to mention the charging time,” said Dimas.

For ojol drivers with high mobility, time efficiency is key. Arif, another Fox R user from Ciracas, said that this charging facility has an output current of up to 40 Amperes.

In his daily routine that requires two charging sessions, the presence of this fast charging device is very crucial.

“Usually on average one hour, if using this device, maybe around 30 to 45 minutes it’s full because we don’t charge from zero,” said Arif.

Users hope that infrastructure like this can be expanded, not only at PLN offices, but also reaching non-toll cross-country rest areas, eateries, and online motorcycle taxi community gathering points to support a more massive electric vehicle ecosystem.
