Woori Bank donates Rp 2b to Aceh
JAKARTA: South Korean-based Woori Bank donated on Monday nearly Rp 2 billion (US$218,700) for tsunami victims in Aceh and North Sumatra. The donation was handed over by PT Bank Woori Indonesia president director Lim Chol-jin to Bank Indonesia Governor Burhanuddin Abdullah.
"This donation was collected from our management, staff and customers who wanted to express their sympathy toward the people in Aceh currently facing a very difficult situation," said Lim.
PT Bank Woori Indonesia, serving some 3,900 Korean customers throughout Indonesia, donated Rp 100 million for Aceh through Bank Indonesia in December.
The bank began operating in Indonesia in 1992 to accommodate Korean investors and workers. The bank merged with PT Hanil Tamara Bank in 1995 and began operating under the name of PT Bank Hanvit Indonesia. In 2002, Hanvit changed its name to Woori Bank. -- JP/003
