Wonosobo Pushed to Become National Dairy Centre, Investment Opportunities Wide Open
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono, known as Mas Dar, stated that Wonosobo Regency in Central Java could become the national dairy centre. Mas Dar said that current national milk consumption is steadily increasing, and nearly all dairy cattle farming centres’ production is already absorbed by the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. “Now all dairy farming centres are absorbed for MBG needs. This is a good opportunity,” said Mas Dar at the opening of the Indonesian Cattle Breeders and Fatteners Association (APPSI) Contest, Cup of the MPR Chairman, in Wonosobo on Saturday (25/4/2026). According to Mas Dar, if there is investment in the dairy cattle sector, the milk produced is guaranteed to be absorbed by the market. Meanwhile, beef cattle farming is also needed by the market. “I invite investment in the livestock sector,” said Mas Dar. On the same occasion, the Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia, Ahmad Muzani, mentioned the disparity between domestic milk production and consumption needs. Therefore, like Mas Dar, Muzani also reminded of the investment opportunities in cattle farming. “There is a 75 percent market potential to meet the domestic fresh milk market,” said Muzani. The Gerindra Party politician stated that the government’s MBG programme will increase national milk demand. Therefore, Wonosobo must be designed to become a centre for fresh milk production. “It is hoped that in the coming years, Wonosobo will become the national dairy centre. Investment is needed,” he said.
