Wonosobo Military District Distributes Zakat Fitrah to Underprivileged Residents
The Wonosobo Military District Command (Kodim) 0707/Wonosobo distributed zakat fitrah (obligatory alms) to underprivileged residents in the vicinity of the district headquarters and surrounding areas on Monday, 16 March 2026. The assistance was provided to economically disadvantaged communities, including porters and impoverished residents, in advance of Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
The zakat distribution was led directly by District Commander (Dandim) 0707/Wonosobo Lieutenant Colonel Yoyok Suyitno, accompanied by the District Chief of Staff and several officers. This activity represented part of the military’s social responsibility and the fulfilment of the zakat fitrah obligation for Muslims with means.
Lieutenant Colonel Yoyok Suyitno stated that zakat fitrah holds significant meaning, not merely as a religious obligation but also as a means of assisting those in need.
“Zakat fitrah is not merely a ritual obligation, but carries substantial benefits. For those contributing zakat, it can purify wealth and the soul from greed whilst bringing blessing. For those receiving zakat, it can help meet basic needs,” Yoyok said.
He explained that zakat also has wide-ranging social impact as it can help reduce economic inequality within society. According to him, zakat represents a form of social insurance that can drive poverty alleviation efforts.
“Zakat can prevent wealth accumulation among a select few. Additionally, zakat fosters solidarity and brotherhood within society and promotes economic empowerment,” he stated.
Yoyok added that the zakat fitrah distribution by Kodim 0707/Wonosobo also forms part of social communication between the military and the community. Through this activity, the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) wished to demonstrate its presence among the public, particularly in assisting those in need.
“This serves as one means to strengthen the relationship between the TNI and the community. Military personnel must always be present and concerned with the difficulties of the people,” he said.
During the activity, dozens of residents queued to receive the zakat fitrah distributed by Kodim members. They came from various backgrounds, including porters, informal workers and residents with limited economic means living near the district headquarters.
One zakat recipient expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by Kodim 0707/Wonosobo. He stated that the aid was invaluable in meeting needs ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
“Many thanks for this distribution of zakat fitrah. This assistance is tremendously helpful for us whose economic situation is limited. May the TNI personnel always be blessed with livelihood and health by Allah,” he said.
The zakat fitrah distribution also forms part of regular social activities conducted by Kodim 0707/Wonosobo each Ramadan. Beyond assisting underprivileged communities, the activity aims to strengthen relations between the military and residents in its area of responsibility.
Through this activity, the Kodim hopes that the spirit of sharing and social concern will continue to flourish within society, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. Additionally, the activity is expected to strengthen the bonds of fellowship between TNI personnel and Wonosobo residents.
Through this initiative, beneficiary residents are expected to experience happiness as they welcome Eid al-Fitr whilst receiving assistance in meeting their basic needs.
