SARAJEVO: The first World Oriental Music Festival (WOMF) opened
on Thursday in the Bosnian capital Sarajevo, bringing together
musicians from 14 countries on three continents.
Ethno-pop music artists from Algeria, Bahrain, Bosnia-
Herzegovina, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait,
Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Serbia and Montenegro, Tunisia and United
Arab Emirates are competing for the best song.
Organizers say the festival is designed to present popular
oriental music with ethnic elements, aimed at "recognizing and
cherishing music culture of Oriental countries". --DPA
