Women urged to get into politics

JAKARTA: A political analyst suggested on Thursday that more
Indonesian women should take part in the country's political life
to avoid being marginalized.

Dewi Fortuna Anwar said that many women see politics as a
struggle for power, therefore they refuse to enter politics.

Dewi of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) also said
that the 30 percent quota for women in the legislature would not
materialize.

According to her, most political parties still considered
women to be inferior.

"Women should reject any offer if they are put on the bottom
of the list of legislative candidates," she said here on
Thursday.

Indonesia will hold a legislative ballot in April and a direct
presidential election starting in July.

Twenty-four parties have been declared eligible for the
election by the National Elections Commission (KPU). -- Antara
