Kuningan, West Java (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Forestry states that women are the group most vulnerable to the impacts of the climate crisis, especially regarding the availability of water resources in rural areas.

Project Manager for FOLU Net Sink 2&3 at the Ministry of Forestry, Arga Paradita Sutiyono, said that the phenomenon of global warming is not merely a matter of rising temperatures, but a threat to gender-based livelihood vulnerabilities.

“The impact of the climate crisis on women is very high. The simplest example in villages is that on average, women are tasked with fetching water. If the climate crisis causes springs to disappear, women must travel farther to obtain water,” he said during the discussion forum “Synergy of Indonesian Women for Indonesia FOLU NET SINK 2030” at Gunung Ciremai National Park, Kuningan, West Java, on Monday.

He explained that gender equality in forestry programmes does not only refer to biological differences between men and women, but more to equal roles, access, and participation in every programme, including for people with disabilities.

“In the implementation of this programme, we must not forget gender issues. Access and participation must be equal. This is important so that actions like planting trees and protecting forests not only impact the environment but also provide social protection for vulnerable groups,” he stated.

The Synergy of Indonesian Women for Indonesia’s FOLU Net Sink 2030 event was held from 11-13 May 2026 in the Gunung Ciremai National Park area, Kuningan, West Java.

The event was attended by representatives from ministries and government agencies in the fields of public relations and protocol, as well as several non-governmental conservation organisations and national reporters at the Ministry of Forestry.

This educational and inspirational activity, initiated by the Bureau of Public Relations and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Forestry, highlights the role of Indonesian women in concrete actions for forest management and achieving the FOLU Net Sink 2030 target, while building a positive narrative on forestry policies through public communication.

The Ministry of Forestry hopes this event will serve as a momentum to strengthen synergy among ministries/agencies, stakeholders, and the public in supporting the implementation of Indonesia’s FOLU Net Sink 2030.

In this regard, effective public communication approaches and sustainable collaboration are expected to build a more comprehensive understanding and broader support for national forestry priority agendas.
