Women Dominate Indonesia's SMEs, OJK Prepares to Ease Financial Access
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has revealed that micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia are currently dominated by women. This figure reinforces the significant role of women in propelling the economy.
“64.5% of MSME actors in Indonesia are currently women, or more than 37 million female entrepreneurs spread across various economic sectors,” stated the Chairman of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Friderica Widyasari Dewi, at the Top Woman Fest in Sarinah, Jakarta, on Saturday (25/4/2026).
Recognising the high contribution of women, OJK is encouraging Indonesian women to continue contributing through easier financial access. This is particularly relevant as many women in Indonesia occupy important positions in the business world.
With easier financial access, it is hoped that the role of women can continue to develop and contribute even more to the economy.
As is known, MSMEs currently serve as the backbone of Indonesia’s economy, contributing up to 61% to gross domestic product and being the largest contributor to employment absorption.
“Therefore, we are encouraging how this access can be made even easier,” she explained.
