Woman's Killer Found Hanging in Serang Turns Out to Be Victim's Boyfriend
Police arrested AS (47), the perpetrator of the murder of woman BY (40), who was found hanging in a garden belonging to a resident of Cipocok Jaya, Serang City. AS was the victim’s boyfriend or had a close relationship with her.
“The victim and suspect had a special relationship,” said Kanit Jatanras of Serang City Police Department, Iptu Angga Kusuma Wardana, on Monday (25 May 2026).
According to Angga, the murder occurred a week before the victim’s body was discovered on Monday (18 May) at around 5pm. He said the suspect, a widower, arranged to meet the victim in a garden in Gelam Village, where the body was found, at around 3am.
“They met at half past two in the morning. The victim borrowed Rp600,000 with her phone as collateral. The suspect had no money, so the victim made comments that angered him,” Angga said.
Angga stated the suspect was upset and resentful after being called a man without money or ‘mokondo’. “He was hurt by the victim’s words, saying ‘you’re a mokondo man’,” he added.
“Similarly, Kasat Reskrim of Serang City Police Department, Kompol Alfano Ramadhan, confirmed the suspect and victim had a special relationship. They were dating,” Alfano said.
Previously reported, the victim’s body was found hanging on Monday (18 May) at around 5pm. Police discovered several wounds on the corpse.
“Based on the investigation at the scene and autopsy results, victim BY is suspected to have died unnaturally due to multiple injuries on her body,” Alfano said.
A joint team from Serang City Police Department and Cipocok Jaya Police Station interviewed several witnesses. Additionally, police recovered the victim’s missing mobile phone as evidence.
Police searched for AS, who was not at his residence in Gelam Village, Cipocok Jaya District. According to reports, AS fled to the jurisdiction of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, specifically Tangerang Selatan (Tangsel).
“The suspect was then taken to the Serang City Police Department’s Reskrim office for further questioning,” he added.
AS is charged under Article 459 in conjunction with Article 458 of the Criminal Code regarding premeditated murder and/or murder.
