Woman's Body Found in Car at Juanda Airport Car Park
The body of a woman was found rigid inside a car in the car park area of Terminal 1 at Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, East Java, on Wednesday (24/6) afternoon. The body was first discovered by a group of online taxi drivers waiting at the airport. They became suspicious because the car was leaking an unusual liquid from its underside.
“At around 11.30 WIB, the Grab drivers who wait here, one of them saw a car leaking an abnormal fluid, like diesel or radiator water,” said a witness, Bagus Tri, at the location. Indeed, when they looked through the car window, they found a woman inside, believed to be deceased, seated and leaning back in the front left passenger seat.
Bagus explained that the body appeared swollen, was wearing a yellow top and a hijab. The woman’s abdomen also appeared enlarged. “My friend who saw it immediately shouted, and the others ran over. When they looked, there was a person inside, on the front left side, next to the driver, sitting reclined, in a swollen condition, a woman in a hijab wearing a yellow top,” he said.
Shortly afterwards, the online taxi drivers who found the body immediately called airport security officers. Bagus mentioned he did not know exactly how long the car had been parked in the Juanda Airport area. However, information from his colleagues suggested the vehicle had been parked for four days. “Initially, no one noticed at all. Only this morning. Just this morning. But a friend said it might have been four days,” he stated.
General Manager of Juanda International Airport, Muhammad Tohir, confirmed the discovery of the woman’s body in the car at the Terminal 1 car park. “We confirm the discovery of a deceased woman in the car park area of Terminal 1 Juanda Airport,” Tohir said in his statement. Tohir added that the Security Task Force team and the police are currently handling the incident and conducting further investigation. “Juanda Airport management fully supports the investigation process being carried out by the authorities,” he said.
CNNIndonesia.com monitoring at the location noted that the Inafis team from Sidoarjo Police, Basarnas, and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) were at the scene for the investigation process. Police tape had also been placed around the car, and airport security officers were seen standing guard.
