Woman with Intellectual Disability in Jombang Murdered by Sister Over Pecel Spice Paste

The mystery behind the murder of Choiriyah (47), a woman with an intellectual disability who died at the hands of her own older sister, Suparni (61), has been uncovered. Police revealed the motive for the heinous act was triggered by a trivial matter: the victim had finished the pecel spice paste.

Investigators from the Jombang Police Criminal Investigation Unit also disclosed the full chronology of the assault, which took place in their shared rented room in Jogoroto Hamlet, Jogoroto Village and District. The sequence began with an argument in the kitchen, escalated into hours of violence, and culminated in the perpetrator’s attempt to cover up her sister’s death by creating an alibi suggesting the victim had fallen in the bathroom.

Jombang Police Criminal Investigation Head AKP Magribi Agung Saputra explained the murder occurred on Friday, 12 June 2026. That morning, Suparni planned to cook pecel for herself and Choiriyah. After buying vegetables, Suparni intended to prepare the spice paste but found the kitchen stock depleted because her younger sister had eaten it. This discovery triggered the perpetrator’s anger, leading to the fatal assault.

‘The perpetrator has admitted she carried out the assault out of resentment because the victim had finished approximately one kilogram of pecel spice paste,’ he stated. According to investigators, Suparni’s emotions peaked over the issue. While in the rented room, the perpetrator then assaulted the victim until she died. ‘That was the peak, where the perpetrator assaulted the victim until she passed away,’ Agung revealed.
