Jakarta (ANTARA) – A woman who stole condolence money at a house of mourning in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, is suspected of having carried out the same act at two other locations previously. ‘Yes, exactly the same as the two earlier incidents,’ said AKP Fadoli, the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kramat Jati Police Sector, when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday. Police revealed that the same suspect had carried out the act at least twice in different areas with the same modus operandi, namely pretending to mourn. Thus, the suspect has committed three offences in total. The two earlier incidents occurred at Jalan Damai, Lubang Buaya on 22 December 2025 and at Jalan Bambu Kuning, Bambu Apus on 4 February 2026. The case in Kramat Jati involved a funeral for Nyai Hasanah (45) on Monday (2/3) around 12:30 WIB. ‘Yes, the perpetrator is a woman, who claimed to be attending to mourn and claimed to know us; then the condolence money disappeared,’ Hasanah said at the scene on Wednesday. The suspect even stayed until just before the burial. While at the house of mourning, she sat and occasionally watched the surroundings. To the family, the woman claimed to be a friend of the deceased’s sister-in-law and described herself as a ‘friend of the struggle’ when taking social assistance such as sembako and KJP. Because the family believed she knew them, Hasanah did not suspect anything. Eventually, the suspect carried out the act with the pretext of needing to use the toilet. The family only realised the loss around 12:30 WIB. Residents pursued, but the suspect had already fled. The act went viral on Instagram @info_cipayung. CCTV footage shows the suspect running out after carrying out the act at the funeral home on Jalan Dukuh IV, Kampung Dukuh, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, on Monday (2/3). Investigators are gathering additional evidence, including CCTV footage and witness statements from the three locations. The similarities in physical appearance and modus operandi provide a strong basis that the same person is responsible. ‘We are still investigating and delving deeper,’ she said.
