Woman Who Attempted Suicide in Front of Palace Had Previously Reported Sexual Harassment Case
Police have revealed that the woman with the initials JS (20), suspected of attempting suicide in front of the Merdeka Palace on Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara, Central Jakarta, had previously reported a suspected sexual harassment case. “It turns out she had reported to the PPA unit regarding sexual harassment. She was the victim at the time, and she was still underage,” said the Head of the PPA/PPO Unit of the Central Jakarta Metro Police Resort, Kompol Rita Oktavia, when contacted on Wednesday (25/3). “As time went on, during the investigation process, there was an agreement between both parties, between the victim’s family and the perpetrator’s family,” she continued. Rita stated that the victim and the perpetrator eventually married. She mentioned that they are currently trying to contact the victim’s husband and family. Rita said that they have not yet been able to communicate with the victim’s family. This is because the victim cannot yet be communicated with, including to ask for her family’s phone number. Rita explained that from preliminary investigations, the victim is suspected of attempting to end her life due to depression. She said that they also found evidence that the victim is undergoing mental health treatment at RSCM. “She (the victim) has family problems. First, problems with her extended family, meaning her parents. Second, her personal, intimate problems. So there are too many problems, leading to her depression,” she stated. Furthermore, Rita said that after being secured, the victim was taken to RSCM for treatment. “Since yesterday, we took her to RSCM, she has been resting and sleeping continuously. So the doctor hasn’t been able to meet her yet, and we haven’t been able to communicate with her either,” she said.
