The victim of a same-sex marriage scam in Malang City was actually intended to be taken to Cambodia. Fortunately, the victim, a woman with the initials IA (28), discovered the true identity of the perpetrator before the trip could take place.

Quoted from detikJatim, IA entered into a secret marriage with a woman who pretended to be a man named ‘Rey’. She met and trusted Rey as a genuine man ready to start a life together.

IA actually grew suspicious when Rey asked her to obtain a passport for a trip to Cambodia on the grounds of seeking medical treatment. The victim’s companion, Eko NS, mentioned suspicions pointing towards human trafficking crimes (TPPO).

“We are also concerned about other indications because before the marriage, the victim was asked to make a passport to be taken to Cambodia under the pretext of treatment. This is what makes us suspicious, especially since such cases are rampant now,” said Eko when met at the Malang City Police Station on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

IA married Rey in a secret ceremony on 3 April 2026. There were irregularities, such as Rey’s family not attending for various reasons. The climax came on the wedding night, when it was discovered that Rey was actually a woman.

The victim then took legal action by filing an official report with the police. Eko explained that the main focus of the current report is document identity forgery, but they are asking the police to also investigate the hidden motives behind the passport request.

“For now, we are reporting one of them as document forgery. This document was used to marry Sister IA,” added Eko.

Meanwhile, the Head of Criminal Investigation at Malang City Police, AKP Rahmad Aji Prabowo, affirmed that the Criminal Investigation team is working intensively to thoroughly investigate this case, including exploring all possible criminal elements.

“The report has indeed been received. Currently, the case is being delved into further to ensure the existing criminal elements,” emphasised Rahmad.
